We believe Frank to have been born in Stockland (although there is a reference to Powderham), the son of Albert Browning and Rhoda. The family tree goes back to John Browning a yeoman of Furzeland, Bridford.
He was in the Royal Navy as a petty officer and joined Scott for his second expedition. He was part of the base party whilst Scott and his companions went off to the South Pole. He is mentioned in a number of books about Scott's last voyage and has two features named after him. Mount Browning and Browning Pass, both in Victoria Land. Many more details can be obtained from the Scott Museum at Cambridge, his diary etc were donated by his son Peter who has since passed away. I understand that there are some mementos of his voyage at the Torquay Conservative Club.
He was married to MAJORIE BENDING and they had 2 children, Mary and Peter, both deceased. There are descendent of Frank through his sisters Bessie and Edith.
