The County Bridge. Stockland has not always been in Devon. In the days when it was owned by Milton Abbey, it was actually a little island of Dorset. There are two county bridges - the one in the village and also one over the Yarty, near the Longbridge Inn. The text on the plaque reads: DORSET Any person wilfully INJURING and part of this COUNTY BRIDGE will be guilty of FELONY and upon conviction liable to be TRANSPORTED FOR LIFE by the Court. 7&8 Geo 4 - T FOOKS
